The Mishimoto Performance Aluminum Fan Shroud Kit, part number MMFS-E46-01, is purpose-built to retire the factory clutch fan on the 2001-2006 BMW E46 M3’s S54 engine. In its place, this brushed aluminum shroud carries a 16-inch high-flow electric fan rated at over 1850 cfm of airflow, and Mishimoto’s own in-house Dynojet testing recorded a 5 whp gain from 6500-7500 rpm along with 1-2 whp gains across most of the power band once the stock mechanical fan was removed.
As part of Mishimoto’s Cooling lineup, this fan shroud kit exists to eliminate a well-known weak point in the E46 M3’s cooling system: the failure-prone factory clutch fan. Swapping to an electrically driven fan frees up parasitic drag while the aluminum shroud channels airflow more efficiently through the radiator. The kit mounts directly to both the factory radiator and Mishimoto’s own E46 M3 radiator, and for owners who want more precise thermal management, an optional adjustable fan controller and wiring kit can be added to give total control over coolant temperatures, including at idle. The fan itself is a plug-in unit with 10 straight plastic blades finished in black, and the shroud’s offset fan mounting is designed to clear popular supercharger installations.
